As part of the cross-discipline trans inclusive name policy discord, we are working to push publishers to adopt name and name change policies that seamlessly allow mathematicians to change their publications to their lived names. A general guiding document was published as a guest editorial for the Committee on Ethics in Publishing:
A vision for a more trans-inclusive publishing world
Spectra is proud to announce that the first Spectra Conference will occur this summer (August 18-20, 2021). Spectra is organizing this conference to provide opportunities for LGBTQ+ mathematicians both to celebrate achievements and to spark conversations of challenges in our community and the role Spectra can play. This will be a space for attendees to share their research across all areas of mathematics (theoretical, applied, and math education) and to interact and create support networks within and across their research communities. Stay tuned for more details!
From it’s origins, the Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) has always held a special place in Spectra’s history, and we are proud to announce that at JMM 2022, for the first time we will be a organizing partner at the event. This new commitment to the JMM will allow us to organize and sponsor even more LGBTQ+ centered events.
The Spectra Lavender Lecture was established in 2022 by Spectra, the association for LGBTQ+ mathematicians and their allies, to honor LGBTQ+ mathematicians who have made significant contributions to the mathematical sciences, mathematical education, or the mathematical community at large. The Spectra Lavender Lecture will be given each year at the Joint Mathematics Meetings. The recipient will receive an honorary plaque, and may be highlighted in various publications (Notices of the AMS, MAA Focus, etc.) or on various social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, etc) per the wishes of the recipient. For more information about the lecture please see this Google doc.
The nomination period for the 2022 Lavender Lecture is April 1 - May 16, 2021. Nomatination can be submitted via this Google form or directly to Juliette Bruce.
